Leroy Krout

Leroy William Krout, the son of William and Alma (Leve) Krout was born in Fargo, North Dakota on December 8, 1925. He died at the age of 87 years on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Bottineau, North Dakota, where he had been a resident for a short time.

Leroy was raised in the homes of his parents in Denbigh and Towner where he received his education in schools there. On March 29, 1945, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the Military Police in occupied Japan following World War II. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1946. Following his discharge, he returned to Towner where he engaged in farming and ranching. On February 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Matie Buckingham in Harvey, North Dakota. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Denbigh, Velva and Granville where they operated a cattle ranch and dairy herd. In 1998, he retired and moved to the land of fishing in Garrison, North Dakota and they spent sixteen years as snowbirds in Arizona. Leroy was a lifetime member of the Granville V.F.W. and American Legion and a former member of the Presbyterian Church in Towner. He was an avid fisherman and reader.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Matie of Garrison; his children, Tim (Jo) of Granville, Richard (Angela) of Urbandale, Iowa, Vickie (Joe) Pinsonnault of Ware, Massachusetts, Deb (Dale) Orvedal of Bottineau, Terri (Barry) Olson of Horace and Penny (Scott) Stenseth of Fargo; two brothers, Loyde (Betty) of Towner and Bob (Joan) of Palouse, Washington; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert Krout; and his parents.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 15th in the Union Cemetery, Towner, Mr. Wally Fretland, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Detail.
