Funeral services were held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 for Irene Torgerson, 96, Rugby, who died Friday, March 16 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Burial was in Persilla Watts Cemetery.
Irene was born to Jacob and Rosina (Faul) Brandt on Sept. 5, 1915 on a farm near Upham. She was raised in the area and attended country school. She married Sig Torgerson in Rugby on Aug. 25, 1940. She lived in Rugby nearly all of her married life. She moved to the Haaland Home in 2004, and into the Heart of America long term care unit in 2006. She worked as a pastry cook at various cafes in Rugby and was head cook at the Rugby schools for 24 years.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and its WELCA.
She is survived by a son, Gary, Moorhead, Minn.; a daughter, Sharon Ebach, Rugby; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 31, 1974; sisters, Amanda Grondahl, Ada Smette, Ernestine Torgerson and Elizabeth Tuchscherer; and brothers, Henry, Leonard, Herman, Albert, Vernon, Edwin, William and Glen Brandt.
Rev. Michael Pretzer officiated. Alecia Pretzer was soloist and Pam Anderson, organist.
Casketbearers were LeAnn Cargo, Mike Ebach, Tim Ebach, Karen Lewis, Laura Tangen, and David Torgerson.
