Josephine Marie “Josie” Rognlien

Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, March 1, 2012, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Towner for Josephine Marie “Josie” (Burkhartsmeier) Rognlien, 93, of Bottineau, formerly of Towner, who died Saturday, February 25, at the Bottineau Good Samaritan Center in Bottineau, ND.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Josie was born April 27, 1918, in the home of her parents, Andrew and Regina (Heilman) Burkhartsmeier, in Red Cross Township, McHenry County, North Dakota. She was raised in Red Cross Township, near Towner, and received her education in country school there. Following her schooling, she helped her father with the work on the farm. In the mid-1940s, she attended hairdresser’s training in Bismarck and then worked in a beauty parlor in Underwood. She later returned home to help her father with the family farm. On October 6, 1953, she married John Austin Rognlien at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. The couple purchased a ranch northeast of Towner where they ranched and raised their family until 1971. From 1971 until 1978 she was the bookkeeper for a ranching and hog operation north of Towner run by her husband. The couple semi-retired to a ranch north of Denbigh and remained there until moving to Bottineau in 2004. In 2005 they moved to the Good Samaritan Care Center.

Josie was a lifelong member of St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Towner and a current member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Bottineau. She also belonged to the Christian Mothers.

She is survived by a son, John N., Towner, two daughters, Marie Marshall, Towner, and Marlene Getzlaff, Bottineau; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Lena Prellwitz; and her parents.

Fr. Michael Schommer officiated. Music was provided by St. Cecilia’s Music Ministry.

Casketberers were grandsons, Cody and Lane Marshall, Darwin Getzlaff, Jared, Elliot and James Rognlien.
