Carol Jeanette (Helmuth) Austin, the daughter of Ervin and Sarah (Miller) Helmuth, was born February 11, 1941, in Wolford, North Dakota.She died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 70 years on Monday, December 26, 2011, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Carol was raised in the family home of her parents in rural Wolford, North Dakota, and graduated from high school there.She completed her education in nurse’s training at the Bottineau School of Forestry, graduating in 1962.She worked as a nurse in Bottineau, North Dakota, Richland, Washington, Minneapolis, and Elkhart, Indiana.On October 7, 1972, she was united in marriage to Lorne Austin at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa.Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada, where Carol worked at the hospital for a short time until having their two children and took on the full-time job of being a loving and caring wife, mother and homemaker.Carol had battled cancer in 1993 and God saw her through it, giving her another 18 years and allowing her to see her children graduate from the University, to attend their marriages, and to see and enjoy her three grandchildren.Unfortunately, the cancer suddenly prevailed and more time was not to be.

She is survived by one son, Jeff, and his wife, Rebecca, of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, and their children, Mikaela and Brendan; one daughter, Pamela, and her husband, Richard Dean, of Vancouver, British Columbia, and their son, Miles; four brothers, Ervin Jr. (RuthAnn) of Mylo, Sanford of Fallon, Montana, Virgil of Wolford, and Hershel (Tammy) of Glendive, Montana; three sisters, Esther (David) Porter of Minneapolis, Avis Helmuth of Columbus, Ohio, and Miriam (David) Lynnes of Bottineau; several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband; sister-in-law, Sheryl “Sandy” Helmuth; and her parents.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 9, 2012, at Lakeview Mennonite Church, Wolford, with burial in the church cemetery.

Pastor Fred Kanagy officiated. Music was provided by the Lakeview Mennonite Octet.

Casketbearers were Francis Helmuth, Josh Helmuth, John Lynnes, David Lynnes, Corwin Kohler, Josh Ballantyne, and Lonnie Anderson.
