Funeral services were held Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, for Eileen Dugan, 90, of Grand Forks, formerly of Towner, who died Sunday, July 24 at Altru Medical Center in Grand Forks.
Burial was in Union Cemetery, Towner.
Eileen was born June 12, 1921, at the home of her maternal grandparents southeast of Denbigh, a daughter of Ole and R. Viola (Thorson) Kongslie. She was raised in the ranch home of her parents in Star Township, McHenry County. She attended elementary school at Wintering School and graduated from Towner High School in 1939. In 1941, she earned her associate’s degree in education from Minot State Teachers College. In later years, she furthered her education by earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education at UND. Her teaching career spanned 60 years. She married Patrick Dugan April 24, 1948, in Towner. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Idaho until purchasing a small ranch north of Towner in 1950. Patrick died May 6, 2003. Following his death, she remained on the ranch for a few years until moving to Grand Forks to be near family.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, and the Ladies Aid, and was active in Pioneer Daughters.
She is survived by her son, Garry, Manvel; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a niece, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Truman and Vernon Kongslie; two nephews, a niece in infancy; and a grand niece.
Pastor Linda Wimmer and Mr. Wally Fretland officiated. Music was provided by Jolie Mitchell, soloist, and Martha Larson, pianist/organist.
Casketbearers were Corey and Jay Dugan, Lynn, Vern, and Justin Kongslie, and Dennis Genre.
Honorary bearers were Kenneth Livedalen, Robert Stigen, Douglas Thorp, Wade Mitchell, Eric and Kevin Lashman, Raymond Thorson, Scott Stutrud, Orrin Nelson, all neighbors, friends, and former students.
