Michael Schneider

Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, 2011, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Selz, for Michael Schneider, 90, of Harvey, who died Monday, June 13 at St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Michael was born Jan. 24, 1921, near Selz, a son of Andrew and Katherine (Gesinger) Schneider. He grew up and attended rural school near Selz. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 8, 1942, and served as a military policeman. He was awarded the American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged Jan. 27, 1946, and returned to the Selz area. He married Barbara Vetter on Oct. 15, 1946, in Selz. They lived in Harvey for a year and he worked for Keller’s Drayline. They purchased a farm north of Selz in 1947, where they lived until moving to Harvey in 2002. Barbara died June 19, 2002.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters, both Selz. He was a member of the Wells Eagles Aerie and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, both Harvey.

He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Leintz, Harvey, and Bonnie Simmons, West Fargo; three sons, Ron, Rugby, Brian, Napoleon, and Curtis, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ambrose, Harvey, and Edward, Las Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brothers, Tony, Casper, and Pius.
