Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, 2011, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Rugby, for Dale Christ Shjerve, 68, who died Friday, June 10 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
Burial was in Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.
Dale was born July 12, 1942, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby, a son of John and Eva (Haverstraw) Shjerve. He was raised in Barton and received his education in a country school near his home. In 1959 his family moved to Rugby, and Dale worked for Liston Grider Well Drilling, and worked in custom combining in Warren, Minn. He served as a tank mechanic for the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged from active duty on Jan. 12, 1971, and from the reserves Jan. 19, 1971. He married Lorraine Bjoraa (Johnson) on Sept. 24, 1971, at First Lutheran Church in Rugby. He worked for Rugby Hide and Fur Salvage, Lenny Ferguson Auto Body and Wrecker Service, S and W Farm Equipment, and Howard’s Repair.
He was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, Rugby.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; four sons, Duane Sherve, Hunter, Marty Johnson, Rugby, Milo Johnson, Grafton, Michael Johnson, Rugby; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gene, Grand Forks, Roger, Fergus Falls, Minn., and Norman, Mandan; four sisters, Helen Lewis, Surrey, Joyce Fettig, Minot, Marilyn Bjerke, Rugby, Linda Marion, Sacramento, Calif.; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Lory Johnson; one sister, Wanda Shjerve; and one brother, Roger.
Music was provided by Marlene Fred, pianist, and Arlene Johnson and Evelyn Johnson, soloists.
Burial was in Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby. Military honors were accorded by the Clarence Larson American Legion Post #23, Honor and Color Guard and the North Dakota Military Honors Detail.
Casketbearers were Irvin Fettig, Paul Shjerve, Kent Lewis, Darin Bjerke, Chris Marion, John Shjerve, Mark Patterson, and Howard Larson.
