Private memorial services were held Sunday, June 5, 2011, for Alton W. Ellis, 82, of Towner, who died Thursday, June 2 at Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.
Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Willow City.
Alton was born Nov. 26, 1928, near Willow City, a son of Marvin and Laura (Kitzman) Ellis. He was raised in the Willow City area, and attended country school. In his younger years, he worked for various farmers in the region. On Sept. 27, 1950, he entered the U.S. Air Force. During his time in the service, he served in Greenland. He was discharged with the rank of Airman Second Class on Dec. 4, 1953. After his time in the service, he returned to North Dakota. He married Theresa Ann Allard on April 30, 1955, in Willow City. They resided in Towner since 1969. He was employed as a semi-truck driver for many years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Vernon T. Starks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7067 in Towner.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, Towner; children, Vickie Ellis, Towner, Joni Wolf, Kindred, Kerry Ellis, Minot, DeAnna Miller, Sawyer, Shelly Holmes, Parshall, and Ronald Ellis, Live Oak, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lyla Bertsch, Rolla, Lorraine Jones, Minot, Ardis Miller, Moore, Okla., and Elaine Tong, Ray; and brothers, Harlan, Minot, and Dorrel, Bottineau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bryan; and brother, Lloyd.
