Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Smith West Funeral Chapel, Billings, Mont., for Harold W. Avens, 85, of Billings, who died Thursday, May 26 at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
Burial was in Mountview Cemetery, Billings.
Harold was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Rugby, a son of Edward and Vida (Robinson) Avens. He grew up and attended school in Pleasant Lake. Following his schooling, he worked at various jobs before entering the U.S. Navy in 1944. Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Pleasant Lake to work on the family farm. He later moved to Billings where he worked as a mechanic until moving to Glendive, Mont., where he lived until 1972. He then returned to Billings. He married Elsie Rienhardt in 1974. The couple made their home in Billings.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie, Billings; three sons, Richard, Longview, Wash., and Harold Jr. and Jeffrey, both of Glendive; two daughters, Sharon Avens, Glendive, and Mardy Kelm, Magazine, Ariz.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Mears, Rugby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
