Regina J. (Axtman) Schneider, the daughter of John J. and Magdalena (Wolf) Axtman, was born in the rural Balta home of her parents on September 28, 1925.She died suddenly on Sunday, April 17, 2011, in the St. Alexius Medical Center Emergency Room in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Regina was raised in the rural Balta home of her parents and received her education in the Balta School.On October 18, 1943, she was united in marriage to Peter Schneider at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta.Following their marriage, the couple made their home, farmed, and raised their family of 11 children northeast of Balta, along Highway 3.A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, Regina also worked outside the home for a number of years at Andrew’s Steak House and the Good Samaritan Hospital, both in Rugby.In 1984, the couple retired from farming and moved to Rugby.Peter died November 5, 1998.
She was a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Balta, and a present member of Little Flower Catholic Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers in both parishes.Regina also enjoyed membership in the Rugby Senior Citizens and the Eagles Auxiliary.She greatly enjoyed being with family and the grandchildren, bingo, playing cards, flowers, bird watching, and the occasional trip to the casino.
Survivors include five daughters, Sandra Thompson of Mandan, Arlene (Leo) Adam of Balta, Marcy (Henry) Hackman of Mandan, Marion (Larry) Hackman of Bismarck, and Peggy (Lyle Jones) Schneider of Rugby; six sons, Jerry (Karon) of Bismarck, Ray (Pat) of Lisbon, Bob (Rosie) of Devils Lake, Jim (Dorothy) and Roger (Lana), all of Hazen, and Doug (Linda) of Rugby; 28 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Schmidt of Rugby and Helen (Richard) Hammers of Great Falls, MT; four brothers, Raymond (Adeline) of Great Falls, MT, Albert (Bertha) of Williston, John (Lorraine) of Rugby, and Leonard (Sylvia) of Everett, WA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Sherry Adam (2009); a sister, Bertha Hirst; a brother, Mike Axtman; a son-in-law, Duane Thompson; and her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby with late spring burial in the church cemetery. Fr. Tom Graner was Celebrant. Music was provided by Robert Graber, vocal leader, and Angie Deplazes, organist.
Casketbearers were her grandsons, Scott Schneider, Kelvin Thompson, Darvin Schneider, Rob Schneider, Leo Adam, Jr., John Hackman, Larry Hackman, Jr., Ryan Schneider, Chris Schneider, Jon Schneider, Danny Schneider, and Jeremy Schneider.
