Martin Shjerve

Memorial services were held at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Medford, Ore., for Martin Shjerve, 96, of Medford, who died Thursday, March 24 in Medford.

Martin was born Dec. 12, 1914, on a farm near Barton, a son of Mathais and Ronnoug (Flaten) Shjerve. He married Irene DePriest. He worked for the Rugby Police Department after serving in Italy, Belgium, and France during WWII. He worked as a chef for many years at the Veterans Hospital in Minot. He moved to Spokane, Wash., and resided in Medford at the time of his death. Irene died in January, 2011.

He is survived by his daughter, Twyla Hunt, Medford; son, Pastor Dalvin Shjerve, Chewelah, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; wife, Irene; a son, Martin, Jr.; three brothers, Robert, John, and Christ; and eight sisters, Mabel Odden, Hannah Dahl, Marie Rose, Clara Sletto, Rachel Haverstraw, Ann Shjervem, Inga and Palma Shjerve.
