Anna (Hager) Weigel, the daughter of Steve and Barbara (Thomas) Hager was born in the Esmond, North Dakota home of her parents on April 22, 1917. She died at the age of 93 years on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the Heart of America Nursing Facility in Rugby, North Dakota.

Anna was raised in the rural Esmond home of her parents and received her education in a country school near her home. Following her schooling, she worked with her parents, helping with the farm work and with her younger siblings. On September 17, 1937, Anna was united in marriage to Michael Eisenzimmer at St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan, North Dakota. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the Eisenzimmer family farm four miles north of Balta, where they farmed and were blessed with two children. Mike died suddenly on May 9, 1957. On December 30, 1957, Anna was united in marriage to Casper Weigel at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta. The couple made their home on Anna’s farmstead and Casper gave up his home south of Balta. Anna and Casper combined their farming operations after their marriage and Casper always felt blessed to have two children in his life. Casper and Anna retired from active farming in 1984. A loving wife, mother and homemaker, Anna also worked outside the home for 22 years as a nursing assistant at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby. Casper died April 20, 1985. Anna continued to live on the farm after his death until purchasing a home in Rugby in 1992. In 1996, she moved to the Haaland Estates and in 2007, she moved to the Heart of America Nursing Facility in Rugby.

Anna was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Balta and its confraternity of Christian Mothers, Rugby Court of Catholic Daughters and a former member of the American Legion and V.F.W.
