Jane Austin

Jane Ealy (Greene) Austin, the daughter of Harrison and Minnie (Pratt) Greene was born December 26, 1917, in Hatton, Saskatchewan, Canada.She died at the age of 93 years on Monday, March 21, 2011, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, North Dakota, where she had been a resident since mid-November, 2010.

Jane was raised in the home of her parents in Hatton until 1922, when the family moved to the United States, settling near Balta, North Dakota, where she received her education. On May 1, 1934, Jane was united in marriage to Raleigh Austin at the First Presbyterian Church in Rugby.Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Rugby, where they raised their five children.A loving wife, mother, homemaker, grand, great and great-great-grandmother, Jane also worked outside the home over the years as a waitress, a store clerk and as a nursing assistant at the hospital.She was a member of Emmanuel United Church in Rugby and its women’s organization, a bible study group, Eastern Star and the Rugby Eagle’s Auxiliary.She enjoyed gardening and canning, embroidery, latch hook, Scrabble and card games. Raleigh died December 31, 2003.

She is survived by four daughters, Shirley Austin of Vacaville, California, Susan and husband, Glenn Soby of Anchorage, Alaska, Marjorie Austin of Rugby, and Judy Stevens of Glen Burnie, Maryland; 21 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Hanbury of Frazee, Minnesota, and Avis Dokken of Billings, Montana; sisters-in-law, Betty Spaulding, Norma Schiff, Margaret Williams, and Phyllis Sheffield; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Dennis; two brothers, Harrison and Vernon; seven sisters, Betty in infancy, Merle Massong, Patricia Van Sweringen, Ellen Tuff, Alice Miller, Leith Voeller, and Garnet Holm; and her parents.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, 2011, at Emmanuel United Church, Rugby. Spring burial will be in Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.

Pastor Don Andrews officiated. Music was provided by Cheryl Holm, soloist, and Barbara Lee, organist.

Honorary bearers were all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Casketbearers wereMike Scheet, Greg Scheet, Mitch Scheet, Dennis Morkert, Gary Lee, and Dwight Johnson.
