Memorial services were held Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, for June “Marlys” Genre, 78, of Towner, who died Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Trinity Homes in Minot.

Burial will be private.

Marlys was born June 24, 1932, in Barton, a daughter of Trigvy and Mildred (Ellsworth) Aamodt. She was raised in the home of her mother due to the death of her father when she was two years old. She graduated from Rugby High School and completed her education at Trinity Hospital School of Nursing in 1953, earning her Registered Nurse degree. She married Donald Genre in 1953, at Barton. The couple made their home on the Genre family ranch, north of Towner. She worked for several years in nursing at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby and at the Towner Medical Clinic.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Valerie Siefkes, New Jersey, Mark, Towner, Paul, Texas, and Cheryl Koble, Grand Forks; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Verland.

Pastor Linda Wimmer, Rev. Steven Siefkes, and Mr. Wally Fretland officiated. Music was provided by her granddaughters, Natasha Bachmeier and Alesha Johnson, vocalists, and Stephanie Turlish, pianist.

Honorary bearers were her grandsons.
