Annabel Shelton

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Niewoehner Funeral Home, Rugby, for Annabel M. Shelton, 92, of Rugby, who died Saturday, Dec. 11 at the Heart of America Medical Center.

Spring burial will be in Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby.

Annabel was born July 27, 1918, in Hamilton, a daughter of Leslie and Olive (Cull) Hale. She was raised in Westhope and graduated from Westhope High School in 1936. She graduated from St. Andrews School of Nursing in Bottineau and continued her nursing education at hospitals in St. Paul, Denver, and Duluth, Minn., where she taught cadet nurses preparing for military service. She married Robert Burns Shelton on Oct. 18, 1945, in Bottineau. She taught at St. Andrews School for many years. She also worked at Presentation Medical Center in Rolla for four years. They moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where she worked at Coeur d’Alene Convalescent Center for eleven years. In 2008, she moved to the long term care unit at Heart of America Nursing Facility in Rugby.

She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Bottineau.

She is survived by her children, Robert, Coeur d’Alene, Peggy McDougall, Rolla, and Susan Mallory, Colville, Wash.; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Hale and Alma Hale, both of Rugby; and two brothers, Harve and Bill, both of Roseburg, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Jack Hale; and a son, David Shelton.

Rev. Thomas Graner officiated. Music was provided by Robert Graber, soloist, and Glenda Mack, organist.
