Bennie Marquart

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond, for Bennie Marquart, 86, of Maddock, formerly of Esmond, who died Monday, Nov. 8 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Bennie was born in Orrin, a son of Balzer and Magdalena (Setter) Marquart. The family moved to Esmond, where Bennie was raised and attended school. He then worked for area farmers for many years and, later, worked for the Benson County Highway Department. He married Elizabeth Fritel on Nov. 5, 1952, in Orrin. The couple made their home in Esmond. Bennie, along with his brother-in-law, cared for the St. Boniface and Trinity Lutheran Church Cemeteries for many years. Elizabeth died March 18, 2001. He became a resident at the Maddock Memorial Home in 2004.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Esmond Knights of Columbus, Esmond Golden Age Club, Rugby Eagles, and attended St. William Catholic Church in Maddock.

He is survived by his brothers, Leo, Maddock, Joe, Devils Lake, and John, Williston; brothers-in-law, Mike Fritel, Maddock, Nick Fritel, Rugby, and Conrad Fritel, Stanley; sisters-in-law, Anna Mary Olderbak, Grand Forks, and Phyllis Salwey, Williston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Kathryn Keller and Victoria Sorenson; and an infant brother, Tony.

Fr. Brian Bachmeier officiated. Music was provided by the St. Boniface Choir and Helen Arnold, organist.

Casketbearers were Randy Keller, Dale Sorenson, Todd Sorenson, Scott Sorenson, Jeff Sorenson, Bob Fritel, Will Fritel, and Fred Fritel.
