Janet Neuenschwander

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at First Lutheran Church, Minot, for Janet Neuenschwander, 86, of Minot, who died Tuesday, Oct. 26 in a Minot hospital.

Burial was in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Janet was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Rugby, a daughter of H.O. and Nettie (Gjerdingen) Lyngstad. She was raised in Rugby, graduating from Rugby High School in 1942. She graduated from NDSU in 1946 with a degree in home economics. She married Norman Neuenschwander on Dec. 28, 1947, in Rugby. They made their home in Fessenden, where she taught home economics. The family moved to Minot in 1949. She was a teacher at Minot High School from 1969 to 1983. Norman died Jan. 4, 1999.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot, the Mount of Olives Lutheran Church, Phoenix, PEO Chapter G, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, and the Scandinavian Heritage Association.

She is survived by her children, Kent, Somerset, N.J., Karen Eakin, Petoskey, Mich., and Eric, Lakeville, Minn.; “adopted son”, Mike Kaminski, Lake Tapps, Wash.; two grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepmother, Amy Lyngstad; sister, Valborg McFair; and brother, Harold Lyngstad.
