Arthur Johnson
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Esmond, for Arthur R. Johnson, 87, of Devils Lake, formerly of rural Esmond, who died Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.
Burial was in Vasa Lutheran Cemetery, rural Esmond.
Arthur was born Nov. 1, 1922, on the family farm in Isabel Township, rural Esmond, a son of Otto and Hannah (Paulson) Johnson. He was raised there and attended the Isabel School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 3, 1945, serving in Germany until his discharge on Dec. 19, 1946. He returned home and operated the family farm until retiring in 2000. He moved to Devils Lake in October 2009, and became a resident at the Good Samaritan Center on Oct. 4, 2010.
He was a member of Vasa Lutheran Church, rural Esmond, until its closing, and then became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Esmond VFW Post #4251.
He is survived by a brother, Leonard, Devils Lake; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence, Albert, Harold, and Donald; and sisters, Leona and Lillian.
Pastor Harold Ovre officiated. Music was provided by Pastor Harold Ovre, soloist, and Karen Smith, pianist.
Casketbearers were Cullen Johnson, Tyrone Johnson, Brent Olson, Alan Olson, Bruce Georgeson, Robert Engkvist, and Brock Georgeson.
Military rites were accorded by the Esmond VFW Post #4251 and the Military Honors Unit of Devils Lake.
