Vernon Kongslie
Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 24, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, for Vernon O. Kongslie, 85, of rural Towner, who died Friday, Sept. 17 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.
Burial was in Union Cemetery, Towner.
Vernon was born Aug. 18, 1925, in Minot, a son of Ole and R. Viola (Thorson) Kongslie. He was raised on the family ranch in Star Township, McHenry County, and attended country school near there. He graduated from Towner High School. At age 17, his father died and he took over the operation of the family ranch. He married Delores Herman on Aug. 20, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner. The couple made their home on the family ranch in Star Township. Delores died April 16, 2004.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, and a former member of the Norway Lutheran Church, Denbigh. He was involved in the Ranchers Scale Association, the McHenry County Flood District, the local school board, and various other boards.
He is survived by three sons, Vern Lee, Lynn, and Justin, all of Towner; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Dugan, Towner; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter at birth, Jeanie Yvonne; a granddaughter, Amanda Kongslie; and a brother, Truman.
Pastor Tim Solberg and Mr. Wally Fretland officiated. Music was provided by Jason Mongeon, soloist, and Elaine Hendrickson, organist.
Casketbeares were Gary Dugan, Roger Herman, Pete Miller, Randy, Toby, and Andrew Kongslie.
