Duane Randle
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan, for Duane Randle, 80, of West Fargo, formerly of Baker and Minnewaukan, who died Saturday, Sept. 4 at Sanford Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Fargo.
Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery, rural York.
Duane was born July 15, 1930, on his parents’ farm in rural Knox, a son of Walter and Hazel (Allan) Randle. He attended grade school and two years of high school at Baker, and graduated from the Benson County Agriculture and Training School, Maddock, in 1949. He taught for one year at Hurricane Lake School north of York. He married Doris Long on June 6, 1954, at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren. He lived and farmed in the Baker area for over 40 years. In 1994, they moved to Minnewaukan where he worked for the Benson County Soil Conservation District for several years. In 2008, they moved to West Fargo.
He was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren until its closing in 2009, serving on several boards, special committees, and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Esmond Rural Fire Department, ASCS Community Committee, Benson County Weed Board, Baker Elevator Board, and the Benson County Farmers Union.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, West Fargo; three daughters, Diane Axness and Barbara Hugelen, both of Fargo, and Denise Jonas, West Fargo; one son, Dennis, Fargo; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Elvin, Baker, Owen, Minot, and Earl, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one sister, Lois Dumdai, Knox; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janet Walker; and two brothers, Arlin and Lyle.
Pastor Luther Mathison will officiate. Music will be provided by Jim, Larry, Edie, Linda and Rod Wurgler, Owen Randle, Claudette Carlson, and Judy Randle, pianist.
Casketbearers will be Mitch, Aaron, and Tyler Axness, Travis Walker, Nicole Irish, and Hillary, Haley, and Hannah Hugelen.
