Kenneth Johnson

Funeral services for Kenneth Johnson, 93, of Bottineau, were held on Monday, August 30, 2010, at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Officiating at the service was the Reverend Glenn Berge. Shelly Berge was the organist and the congregation sang selected hymns. Casketbearers were all of Kenneth’s grandchildren. Burial was in the Willow Creek Cemetery at Overly.

Kenneth E. Johnson, a son of Louis L. and Thea (Lee) Johnson, was born in Willow City on August 14, 1917. He grew up on the family farm near Overly. Kenneth attended grade school and graduated from high school in Overly. His one great joy in school was playing baseball. Kenneth married Evelyn Pundness in Rugby on December 30, 1945. They lived on the family farm near Overly until they moved to Bottineau in 1956 so that Evelyn could teach Home Ec. He spent many nights typing for Evelyn’s Home Ec classes. Kenneth retired from farming in the early 2000’s. Evelyn passed away in 2002.

Kenneth was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. He was the superintendent when the new addition was added to the First Lutheran Church to accommodate 398 Sunday School students. He became involved in the Bottineau County Historical Society in the early 1970’s, helping guide the building of the Museum. Kenneth was secretary of the Overly Coop Elevator Board for 17 years. He also chaired two school reunions in Overly.

Kenneth passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010, at St. Andrew’s Hospital in Bottineau.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Sandra Kay (Ron) Lemon, Spring, TX; son, Orin E. (Sharon) Johnson, Overly, ND; seven grandchildren, Allison Lemon, Ritchey (Meredith) Lemon, Ryan (Kelly) Lemon, Jarvis (Megan) Lemon, Tracie (Marc) Sovik, Mark (Raye) Johnson, Amber (Jim) Johnson; and six great-grandchildren, Cayden Sovik, Kennadee Sovik, Amari Lemon, Kai Lemon, Avery Lemon, and Maison Lemon.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brother, Leon; and sisters, Alvida Phelps and Kathleen Johnson.
