James Ritterman
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Leeds Lutheran Church, for James R. Ritterman, 76, of York, who died Saturday, Aug. 14 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
James was born Aug. 5, 1934, in York, a son of Rudy and Iona (Rude) Ritterman. He was raised there and attended York School through the 8th grade. He graduated from Leeds High School in 1952, and attended Minot Business College. He married Carol Fox June 17, 1956, in Leeds. They farmed near York and started a trucking business in 1959, which they owned and operated for over 50 years. He also trucked with his brothers for a time. His sons later joined the business.
He was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church. He served as mayor of York for 40 years and was a member of the Leeds Rural Fire Department and the Elks.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of York; sons, Bob and Pete, both of Leeds, and Randy of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Janet Nybo of York; three brothers, Frank and Leland, both of Leeds, and Charles of Fargo; an aunt, Bernice Hilzendager, of Rugby; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald and Phillip; a sister, Anne Britsch; and a niece.
Pastor Richard Budd officiated.
Casketbearers were his grandchildren: Leah Biby, Steve Biby, Gina, James, Anthony, and Mitchell Ritterman.
