Grace Gross

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, at Little Flower Church, for Grace D. Gross, 73, who died Thursday, Aug. 12 at her home in Rugby.

Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Orrin.

Grace was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Carrington, a daughter of Robert and Cecelia (Hoornaert) Dickinson. She was raised in the rural Fessenden home of her parents. She attended St. Anna country school and graduated from Fessenden High School. She completed her education at Valley City State College, attaining her teaching certificate. She married Jacob “Jack” Gross April 20, 1960, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Fessenden. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the Gross family farm in Sandale Township, north of Orrin. She worked as a rural school teacher, a CCD teacher and organist at St. Augustine and Sacred Heart Catholic Churches, associated with the Merry Trio, and was a feature writer for the Pierce County Tribune. Jack died Aug. 6, 1997. She moved into Rugby the fall of 1998.

She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a current member of Little Flower Catholic Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Margery Mattson, Grafton; four sons, Donald, Barboursville, W. Va., Ronald, Williston, Terry, Crookston, Minn., and Michael, Woodland Park, Colo.; six grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Dickinson, Fessenden; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Kristen Gross; and two sisters, Helen Olschlager and Florence Dickinson.

Fr. Tom Graner officiated. Music was provided by Jacinta Schmaltz, vocal leader/cantor, and Angie Deplazes, organist.

Casketbearers were Jacob Gross III, Garry Geroux, Loren Mattson, Fred Mitzel, Jr., Dustin Mattson, Bradley Mitzel, and Larry Bickler.
