May Sorlie
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock, for May Sorlie, 85, of Maddock, who died Sunday, Aug. 8 at the Heart of America Medical Center.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
May was born Aug. 30, 1924, at Normantown, W. Va., a daughter of Okey and Mabel (Domer) Norman. She moved with her parents to Esmond in May 1932. She attended grade school in West Virginia, Isabel School near Esmond, the Hesper School in Benson County, and graduated in 1942 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock. She then attended Minot State College and taught at Ft. Totten and at the Arne School in rural Maddock. She married Weyburn Sorlie April 27, 1946, in Harvey. The couple farmed in Arne Township until moving into Maddock in 1960, where they owned and operated the Palace Cafe for 11 years. She then worked at Plum’s Hardware and Maddock Thrifty White Drug until retiring in 2004. Weyburn died Feb. 5, 1987. She spent the last two winters with her daughter in Rugby.
She was a member of North Viking Lutheran Church, where she was active in the WELCA, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
She is survived by a son, Duane, Escondido, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Warner, Rugby; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Monroe Norman, Maddock, Helen Johnson, Fargo, and Olive Burnham, Glyndon, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Perry, Elmer, Walter, Okey, Amy Tootoosis, Arkie Rieger, Alice Erickson, and Karroll Wachtel.
Pastor Allen Campbell officiated.
