Glenn Orlen Braaten, born May 14, 1937, in Rolette, North Dakota, died July 29, 2010, at Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Glenn taught jr. high and high school for 37 years in Minnesota and the Los Angeles (LA) City School District. He also worked at the LA City School District Science Center. Glenn enjoyed his retirement doing many things that he loved. He enjoyed his involvement with the Sons of Norway, acting as president of the Scandinavian American Cultural & Historical Foundation, camping with the Conejo Campers as well as working part-time at Infinity of Thousand Oaks as well as volunteering for the National Park in the Santa Monica Mountains teaching children. But he most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his three grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Hans and Mable Braaten, and brother-in-law, Clay Hulett.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, and daughters, Laurie and Christi, son-in-law, Zin, and grandchildren, Emily, Oliver, and Gabrielle. Glenn is also survived by his sisters, Esther and Rachel Thompson, of Rugby, N.D., his brother, Marvin (Alice), of Scottsbluff, Neb., sister, Lyla (Bob) Grant, of Agoura, Calif., sister, Helen (Gary), of Devils Lake, sister, Carol (Eldon), of El Cajon, Calif., sister, Connie, of Moorpark, Calif., and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
A celebration of his life was held at Ascension Lutheran on Hilcrest Dr. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010.
A memorial and committal service will be held Saturday, Aug. 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Ox Creek Cemetery, south of Rolette. Following will be a time of fellowship and remembrance at the Dale and Martha Hawk Museum.
