Florence Hornstein

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Little Flower Catholic Church, for Florence Hornstein, 91, of Bismarck, formerly of Rugby, who died Monday, July 26 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Florence was born Nov. 28, 1918, in Bismarck, a daughter of Andrew and Helen (Satter) Larson. She was raised in the home of her parents, first in Baldwin, and then in Bismarck, where she graduated from high school. She completed her education at Dickinson State Teachers College, earning her B.S. degree in education. Following college, she taught in the rural school systems in Baldwin and Pleasant Lake. She married Peter J. Hornstein Nov. 6, 1945, in Bismarck. The couple purchased a farm south of the Hornstein family farm near Pleasant Lake. In 1960, they moved into Rugby. She worked as assistant librarian, then as librarian in the new library, retiring in 1977. In 1980, she became the secretary for the Pierce County Public Nurse, working there for eighteen years. Peter died July 11, 1979. In 2004, after suffering injuries to her back, she moved to the care center in Bismarck.

She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of AmericaRugby Court, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, the Clarence Larson American Legion Auxiliary, the Literary Club, and other women’s clubs.

She is survived by one daughter, Gail Hrdlicka, Bismarck; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Dean, of California; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Robert; and four brothers, Robert, Harvey, Donny, and Andy Larson.

Fr. John Ejike will officiate. Music will be provided by Robert Graber, vocalist/cantor, and Glenda Mack, organist.

Casketbearers will be Joseph Hornstein, Heidi McClure, Heather Bennett, Andrew Huisman, Wade Larson, and Tyler Hornstein.

Visitation will be held prior to services on Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home.There will be no reviewal at the church on Saturday.
