Julia Senger
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 17, 2010, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Harvey, for Julia Senger, 91, of Harvey, who died Sunday, June 13 at St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Julia was born May 29, 1919, near Balta, a daughter of Valentine Walter and Rosa (Schiele) Schaan. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Balta. She managed a cook car for five years during harvest before moving to Rugby to work as a nanny. She also worked at the Balta Post Office. She married Edward Senger on Jan. 24, 1944, in Balta. The couple farmed. In 1980, she co-founded HAV-IT in Harvey, Harvey Area Vocational Training, which serves people with disabilities.
She belonged to the Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America, and the St. Cecilia Alter Society.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; children, Bob of Old Saybrook, Conn., Bernadette Mahler of Fargo, Fr. William of Maryknoll, N.Y., Beverly Senger-Butler of Valley, Ala., Bruce of Moorhead, Minn., Vernoon of Fargo, Betty Senger of Harvey, Michael of Orrin, Bonnie Daily of Moorhead, Minn., Marilyn Bjoralt of Fargo, Joseph of Bismarck, Julie Keller of Harvey, and Rick of Shakopee, Minn.; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Carl and John Schaan, both of Rugby, and Leo Schaan of Underwood; and sisters, Martha Schlickenmayer of Las Vegas, Christine Bertsch and Helen Klein, both of Fargo, and Bernie Duchscher of Pleasant Lake; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Valentine and Byron; brothers, Philip and Frank; a sister, Dorothy Morrissey; and a grandson, Nicholas Senger.
