Bud Taylor

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, for Bud Taylor, 88, of Towner, who died Wednesday, May 26 at the Heart of America Medical Center.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Towner.

Bud was born Marshall Edwin Taylor on Aug. 9, 1921, in the home of his aunt and uncle, in Towner. He was raised for nearly two years on the family ranch southeast of Towner. His father died in February of 1923. The summer after his father died, he moved to town with his grandmother, mother, older brother, and infant sister. He went to school in Towner through the tenth grade. In 1939, he moved back to the Taylor ranch to restart the family business. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942, and served in the Pacific Theatre of WWII. He finished by serving in the Japanese occupation and returned to the ranch in 1946. He married Elizabeth Dokken on Feb. 24, 1959. The couple continued to ranch. Before his death, the family ranch was voted into the N.D. Cowboy Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his children, Justin of San Francisco, Tara Abrahamson of Minot, and Ryan of Towner; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Liz; a brother, Harvey; and a sister, Betty.
