Laura Erickson

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at New Hope Lutheran Church, Upham, for Laura J. Erickson, 95, of Minot, formerly of Upham, who died Thursday, May 13 at Trinity Hospital.

Burial was in Bloomfield Lutheran Cemetery, Upham.

Laura was born June 17, 1914, on the family farm near Upham, a daughter of Lars and Annie (Lundervold) Lunde. She attended school in Upham, graduating in 1932. She completed her education at Minot Teachers College, earning her teaching certificate. Following college, she taught in a rural Granville school for a year. In the late 1930’s, she worked in Towner at the Farm Government offices, and then worked two years in the McHenry County Treasurer’s office. She married Morgan Erickson on June 27, 1943, at Bloomfield Lutheran Church in Upham. The couple made their home in Upham, where they owned and operated Erickson Hardware until 1973. Morgan died April 12, 1985. She continued to live in Upham until September of 2007, when she moved to Wellington Assisted Living in Minot.

She was a member of Bloomfield Lutheran Church, now New Hope Lutheran Church, in Upham, its WELCA, Ruth Circle, Senior Citizens, and Birthday Club.

She is survived by one son, Dwayne, Harker Heights, Texas; two daughters, Jean Thompson, Bismarck, and Dorothy Peterson, Mohall; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five sisters, Gena Lunde, Alma Lunde, Bertina Holm, Adeline Kirkeby, and Alice Smith; one brother, Oliver Lunde; and a son-in-law, Keith Fleck.

Wally Fretland and Pastor Tim Solberg officiated. Music was provided by Rodney Lunde, soloist, Mandy Hall, organist, and her nieces and nephews, vocalists.

Casketbearers were Ryland, Preston, Kirby, and Tyler Fleck, Angela Jordet, Vennessa Coufal, Amy, Sara, John, and Lucas Peterson, Erica Olson, Cyndi Woytek, and Dede Knight.
