Victor Jones

Funeral services were held Monday, May 3, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, Towner, for Victor R. Jones, 80, of Towner, who died Monday, April 26 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.

Burial was private.

Victor was born July 29, 1929, on the family farm in Gilmore Township, McHenry County, near Towner, a son of James L. and Anna M. (Kidd) Jones. He was raised in the home of his parents in Gilmore Township, and attended school at Norenberg School, Riga School District, and McPherson School, Medicine Lodge School District, in McHenry County. Following his education, he worked on the Carl Miller farm and for various farmers in the area. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 22, 1952, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal and Bronze Star for service in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 22, 1954. Following his discharge, he completed eight years of service in the Army Reserve. He married Delores I. Rice on Nov. 14, 1955, at Bloomfield Church in Upham. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Ray, where he worked in the oil fields. In 1956, they moved back to the Towner area, where they made their home north of the Kelly Miller Ranch near Towner. He worked for different construction companies and for various farmers in the Towner area. Delores died Dec. 21, 1999. He continued to live on the ranch until the time of his death.

He is survived by three sons, Lyle of Rugby, Leslie of Bismarck, and Lloyd of Towner; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Johnny of Las Vegas; two sisters, Delores Jaeger and Beverly Lynch, both of Towner; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Donald, David and Eugene Rice, all of Upham, Gary Rice and James and Sharon Jansky, all of Towner; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Linda; son, Larry; brothers, Herbert and James; sisters, Mildred McFarlane, Lucille Fuhrmann, and Dorothy Drader; sisters-in-law, JoAnna Jones and Mary Rice; brothers-in-law, Donald Drader, Robert Lynch, Pius Jaeger, Oren McFarlane, and Sam Fuhrmann.

Mr. Wally Fretland officiated. Music was provided by Vern Larson and Friends, vocalists, and Mandy Hall, organist.

Military honors were accorded by the Vernon T. Starks VFW Post #7067, the American Legion Post #34 Honor and Color Guard of Towner, and the ND Military Honors Detail of Minot.
