Elaine Engstrom
Private funeral services are pending for Thea Elaine Engstrom, 95, of Leeds, who died Sunday, April 11, 2010, at her home.
Elaine was born Feb. 17, 1915, in New Salem, a daughter of Edward and Florence (Ostereng) Schurr. She lived near Almont until the family moved to Fargo when she was six years old. She attended school in Fargo, graduating from Fargo Central High School in 1933 and North Dakota Agricultural College in 1938. After college, she moved to Leeds where she worked as a teacher. She married Emil L. Engstrom on June 21, 1941. The couple moved to the Fargo area. She continued teaching at Hunter for a few years before returning to Leeds where they settled on Emil’s maternal grandparents’ homestead which they farmed for many years. Emil died in 1992. She remained on the farm.
She was a member of the Leeds Lutheran Church, WELCA, and the Homemakers’ Club.
She is survived by her daughters, Penny Fogelson of Albertville, Minn., Peggy Jacobson of Leeds, Patty Gould of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Paula Haagenson of Leeds; a brother, Garmond Schurr of Oak Park, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and six great-granchildren.
