Arlene Rognlien
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner, for Arlene Rognlien, 75, of Towner, who died Thursday, March 4 at Trinity Medical Center in Minot.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Towner, in the spring.
Arlene was born May 19, 1934, in Rugby, a daughter of Theodore and Elsie (Korsmoe) Sjong. She was raised in Wagar Township, McHenry County, and attended Medicine Lodge School, completing her high school education by correspondence. She married Melvin Rognlien on June 29, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Towner. The couple made their home in Poplar Township north of Towner, where they ranched. In the early 1960’s, she went to work for Pioneer State Bank of Towner, now Western State Bank, holding various positions over the years. She retired in 2005. Melvin died Jan. 31, 1995. She remained on the ranch until moving into Towner in 2004. In August of 2009, she moved to Manor Care Center in Minot.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, WELCA, the American Quarter Horse Association, and the National Cutting Horse Association.
She is survived by two brothers: Lester of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and Jerry of Gurnee, Ill.; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Lillian Volk; three brothers: Kenneth, Arnold, and her twin, Gilman “Gillie”.
Pastor Tim Solberg officiated. Music was provided by Chantel Luna, soloist, Elaine Hendrickson, organist, and the congregation.
Casketbearers were Larry Kuk, John Rognlien, Douglas Sjong, Dean Sjong, David Sjong, and Daniel Sjong.
