Bernice Greig
Bernice Winifred Ruth (Harmel) Greig, the daughter of Henry G. and Selma J. (Sand) Harmel was born on April 24th, 1936, at Rugby, North Dakota. She died at the age of 73 years on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at the Trinity Medical Center in Minot, North Dakota.
Bernice was raised in the rural Rugby home of her parents and graduated from Rugby High School in 1954.On October 9, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gordon Greig at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rugby. Following their marriage, the couple made their home for the next 47 years near Pleasant Lake where they farmed and raised their family.A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Bernice also worked outside the home after the children left at the Haaland Home in Rugby.In 2008, the couple moved into Rugby.Bernice was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and active in the Ladies Aid.She also served as Clerk for the Pleasant Lake Township for many years.Bernice enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, crossword puzzles, and babysitting for family members.Most important to her was her family and her grandchildren.
Those who were privileged to share in her life and will deeply miss her are her husband, Gordon; two daughters, Michele (Monte) Engel of Bismarck and Sandi (Todd) Munyer of Rugby; two sons, Randy of Towner and Jeff of Pleasant Lake; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Engel, Colin (Heather) Engel, Nathan (Krystal) Engel, Amanda (Tyler) Ohlsen, Cody, Tanner & Jason Goetz, Ashlynn Munyer, Kris and Michael Allred; 4 great-grandchildren, Ashton, Ali, Luca & Crew Engel; 3 sisters, Marlys (Delmer) Ostrem and Beverly (Orvin) Blekeberg, all of Rugby, and Sandra (Glenn) Bethke of Grand Forks; 7 brothers, Robert (Audrey) of Rolette, Laverne, Gerald, Douglas (Joni) and Stranford (Susan), all of Rugby, Bradley (Suzanne) of Franktown, CO and Donovan of Minneapolis, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by two children in infancy; a sister, Alice Mae Harmel; and her parents.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 27th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rugby, with spring burial in the Persilla Watts Cemetery, Rugby. Pastor Philip Hannemann officiated. Organist was Melinda Jelsing. Soloist was Leah Lehmann.
Casket Bearers were her Grandchildren: Jennifer, Colin & Nathan Engel, Amanda Ohlsen, Cody, Tanner & Jason Goetz, Ashlynn Munyer, and Kris & Michael Allred.
