Kathryn Thorson
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Little Flower Catholic Church, for Kathryn Thorson, 88, of Rugby, who died Sunday, Feb. 14 at her home.
Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.
Kathryn was born Mar. 27, 1921, at the family home in Orrin, a daughter of John and Mary (Froelich) Fettig. She was raised there and received her education at Orrin and Rugby schools. She married Elmer M. Thorson on Sept. 15, 1943, at Little Flower Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Minnesota for a short time and later returned to Rugby. She worked outside the home as a waitress in many of Rugby’s cafes and restaurants, and for many years, worked as a clerk at the Corner Drug Store and Miller’s Pharmacy & Gifts. Elmer died Dec. 26, 1983.
She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church and the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
She is survived by two daughters: Gwen Olson, Santa Clarita, Calif., and Paulette Thorson, Chula Vista, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Lezlee Thorson, Devils Lake; a brother, Martin Fettig, Port Townsend, Wash.; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Michael; a brother, Joseph; a sister, Lydia Santana; and her parents.
Fr. John Ejike officiated. Music was provided by Kathy Voeller, vocalist, and Glenda Mack, organist.
Casketbearers were Ryan, Kayla and Sean Thorson, Eric and Damon Olson and Lester Roberts.
