James Anderson
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2010, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Rugby, for James Anderson, 81, of Rugby, who died Saturday, January 23 at the Heart of America Medical Center.
Burial will be in the Tunbridge Cemetery in the spring.
James was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Rugby, a son of Harold Alfred and Alma Constance (Mygland) Anderson. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1946. He entered the U.S. Army in October of the same year. He spent a year overseas and was honorably discharged in March of 1948. He enrolled at Minot State Teachers College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology in 1955. He married Elsie Martha Stutrud on June 14, 1952, in Minot. He worked as a speech therapist in Bottineau County schools until 1965. At this time he attended Idaho State University at Pocatello for one year. He operated the Easter Seals Speech and Hearing Clinic in Lewiston, Idaho from 1966-1973. They returned to North Dakota where he was a speech pathologist in Emmons County at Linton until 1979. During this time, he also operated a farm in Dewey Township, Pierce County, which he purchased in 1975. He continued his work as a speech pathologist in Bottineau County until he retired in 1994. He operated the farm until the time of his death. He was a member of various professional organizations during his practice.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie, of Rugby; two sons, Roger of Mandan and Kurt of Rugby; four grandchildren; a brother, Harold, of Winchester, Tenn.; and a sister, Hazel Forsberg, of Minot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Renee.
Rev. Philip D. Leer officiated. Music was provided by Rachel Anderson, Rev. Leer, and the congregation. Pam Anderson was the organist.
Casketbearers were Nicholas Anderson, Rachel Anderson, Sydney Anderson, Tim Anderson, Darrell Dietz, Joe Mattern, Kristi Stutrud, and Myron Stutrud.
Military honors were accorded by the American Legion Clarence Larson Post #23 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Detail.
