Reuben Skadsem
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at Peace Lutheran Church in Devils Lakes, for Reuben J. Skadsem, 92, of Devils Lake, who died Monday, Jan. 11 at the Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.
Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery in the spring.
Reuben was born June 26, 1917, in rural Newfolden, Minn., a son of Ole and Sophie (Blismond) Skadsem. He was raised and attended country school there. He married Delores Rosemond Olson on Jan. 10, 1943, in Newfolden. They made their home in Newfolden, and in 1949, moved to Devils Lake. He worked at various jobs including the Devils Lake PV Elevator, farming and road construction.
He is survived by his wife, Delores; nine children: Ray, Devils Lake, Lyle, Maddock, Roger, Doyon, David, Jamestown, Loren, Binford, Sherry Uhlenkamp, Rugby, Merlin, Devils Lake, Dianne Bachmeier, Rugby, and Lori Urbach, Lisbon; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lucille Skadsem, Newfolden; a brother-in-law, Donald Olson, Balta; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandchild; three brothers; seven sisters and two half-sisters.
Rev. Rafe Allison officiated. Music was provided by his great-niece, Wendy Blazejewski, and great-nephew, Craig Swenson, and JoDee Lagein, pianist.
