Orris Mundahl

Orris Jerry Mundahl, 68, of York, ND passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the Triumph Hospital in Mandan from complications due to diabetes.

Orris was born August 14, 1941, to Clarence and Blanche (Dunham) Mundahl of York, ND at the Rolette Hospital in Rolette.

Orris grew up on the Mundahl Centennial Farm southeast of Wolford, ND. He attended schools at Union and Rush Lake Townships and graduated from Leeds High School in 1959. He continued his education at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton and graduated with a degree in diesel mechanics.

Orris began his grain farming and ranching careers after college and became one of the major producers on the family farm when his dad, Clarence, passed away in 1968 and his involvement continued through this past year.

Orris was involved in the community by serving on the Dale & Martha Hawk Museum, Pierce County Farm Bureau, and the North Central Research Station Boards. He also served on the Pierce County Weed Control Board for over 25 years and acted as the board chairman for many of the years. He enjoyed his travels around the county looking for leafy spurge and worked hard to purchase vehicles, equipment and the weed control building for the county.

He was also a member of the Rugby Eagles, the Wolford Wildlife, and Wolford Lutheran Church where he served on the various boards.

He enjoyed driving though the countryside and visiting with friends and relatives. He also enjoyed fishing and visiting the Casinos.

Orris is survived by his brother, Curtiss (Roberta) Mundahl of Cando; nieces, Carrin (Jeff) Thorpe of Ellendale; Carolyn (Layton) Reynolds of Minot; and Courtney Mundahl of Devils Lake, and 2 grandnephews, Hunter and Riley Thorpe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Blanche Mundahl.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 3, 2009 at the Dunnigan Dix Funeral Home from 2 to 8pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
