Catherine Saupe
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at St. Catherine’s Village Chapel, Madison, Miss., for Catherine “Katie” Saupe, 85, who died Monday, Dec. 28 at St. Catherine’s Village.
Burial will be in the spring at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Orrin.
Katie was born May 30, 1924, in Orrin, a daughter of Kasper and Ursula (Volk) Lacher. In 1941, she joined her brother, Nick, in Chicago where she worked in a factory for the war effort. She married Carl Duchscher in 1947 and they returned to North Dakota. Carl died in 1951. She returned to Chicago and worked as a waitress. She married Walter “Dutch” Saupe in 1953. After she retired, they moved to Merrillville, Ind. to be near her brother, Leo. In 2005, she moved to Madison, Miss. to live in St. Catherine’s Village.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Merrillville, Ind., and an active participant in the Holy Name Society.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Carl; second husband, Dutch; brothers: Nick, Leo, John, Casper, and Bert; and sisters: Tillie, Margret, Walburga, and Regarda.
