Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Nativity Catholic Church, Fargo, for Boyd Christenson, 73, of Fargo, who died Tuesday, Dec. 22 at home.

Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.

Boyd was born Feb. 29, 1936, in Rugby. He grew up in Minot. In 1955, he enrolled at the University of North Dakota. He married Marlene Huber on June 20, 1959. His career as a television and radio broadcaster and public speaker spanned over five decades. He lived his entire life in North Dakota.

He was name North Dakota Sportscaster of the Year three times, was inducted into the North Dakota Sportscaster and Sportswriters Hall of Fame in 1990, the NDSU Bison Hall of Fame in 1992, and received a Peabody Award.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene, Fargo; daughter, Mona Christenson Barz, Nashville, Tenn.; son, Mark, Grand Forks; son-in-law, Lucho Espejo, Fargo; 8 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Laura Huber, Fargo; two sisters, Connie Flanagan, Blaine, Minn., and Marcia Noon, Parker, Colo.; brother, Ed Fox, Minot; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice Fox; daughter, Laura Christenson Espejo; and father-in-law, John Huber.
