R. H. Sherwin
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Trinity Bethany Lutheran Church, Harvey, for R.H. “Bud” Sherwin, 86, of Harvey, formerly of Jamestown, who died Wednesday, Nov. 25 at St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Jamestown.
Raymond Howard “Bud” was born May 25, 1923 at Barton, a son of Edwin and Alma (Thompson) Sherwin. He grew up and attended country school in the Barton and Willow City area. He began working as a lineman for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Rugby. He entered the Army Air Corps during WWII, and flew on 50 missions as the tail gunner in a bomber. After his honorable discharge, he resumed working for Northwestern Bell in the Rugby and Bottineau areas. He married Marcella Morkert on June 27, 1948 in Leeds. They lived in Bottineau, Harvey, and moved to Jamestown in 1968. Marcella died Sept. 5, 1978. He retired in 1982 after serving 42 years with Northwestern Bell. He moved to Harvey in 1994, and resided at St. Aloisius Nursing Home.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Zerr of Harvey; sons, David of Bismarck, and Michael of Jamestown; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Elwood of Rugby; and a sister, Marian Guss of Minot.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Vernon, Ernest and Stanley; and sisters, Helen McKee and Lucille Cote.
