Thomas Senger
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2009, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake, for Thomas C. “Tom” Senger, 89, of Devils Lake and Crary, who died Friday, Oct. 30 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake.
Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Tom was born May 7, 1920 in Orrin, a son of Thomas and Theresa (Koble) Senger. On June 7, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling and served during WWII with the 336th Ordinance Depot Company in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 15, 1946 at Fort Lewis, Wash., with the rank of Technician 5th Grade. He married Lillian Larson on July 31, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake. They moved to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho where he worked at Potlatch Lumber Mill. They returned to Devils Lake where he worked at John Deere. In 1960, they moved to a farm near Crary where they worked and raised their family. Lillian died Dec. 4, 1986. He continued to live on the farm until moving into Devils Lake on Dec. 1, 2008.
He was a member of the Devils Lake Eagles, Elks Lodge, VFW and Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Crary School Board.
He is survived by his children, Beverly Ricker of Portland, Ore., and Charles of Devils Lake; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Julius of Devils Lake; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers, Phillip, Wendt, Conrad, Joe, Tony and Butch; and sisters, Margaret Yager and Evelyn Schneider-Young.
Fr. Peter Sharpe officiated. Music was provided by JoDee Lagein.
Casketbearers were Leroy Koble, Adam Koble, Joe Yager, Leonard Birkland, Bob Davis and Dave Freidig
