Ernest Peterson
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Grace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls, Minn., for Ernest C. “Pete” Peterson, 94, of Fergus Falls, who died Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Homestead Pioneer Senior Cottage.
Pete was born Sept. 3, 1915 in Rugby, a son of Charles and Rosa (Young) Peterson. He grew up in the Rugby area, graduating from high school in 1933. Following high school, he attended the University of Minnesota until a depression-era call offering him the assistant manager’s position at the J.C. Penney store brought him back to Rugby. He also managed stores in Langdon and Grafton, Sisseton, S.D., and Winona and Fergus Falls, Minn. for a total of 41 years. He married Muriel B. Wing on June 5, 1943 in Cavalier. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1960. He retired in 1975.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel, Fergus Falls; three children, David, Arpin, Wisc., Diane Landry, Boston, and Barb Peterson, Conway, S.C.; an AFS daughter, Yvette Xavier-Koh; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Opal Peterson; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernie and Chester; and a sister, Dorothy.
Reverend Bob Kandels and Chaplain Harry Olson officiated.
