Norman Halvorson
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, for Norman Halvorson, 98, of Maddock, who died Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Norman was born Dec. 10, 1910, on the family homestead in Arne Township, rural Maddock, a son of Nicholas and Solveig (Anderson) Halvorson. He was raised there and educated at the Arne Township School. He also attended the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock. Following his education, he lived on and farmed the family farm until his retirement. He married Eva (Anderson) Krause on Dec. 10, 1956, in Wolsey, S.D. Eva died Nov. 19, 1986. In later years, he moved into Maddock and for the past several years had resided at the Heart of America Medical Center.
He was a member of North Viking Lutheran Church.
He is survived by three step-children, Martha Hollis of Rapid City, S.D., Edward Krause of Nampa, Idaho, and Marcel Krause of Seattle; a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest of Hoquiam, Wash.; a sister, Thelma Zimmerman of Wisconsin; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; step-son, Leon Krause; step-daughter, Seeley Baseman; four brothers, Arden, Clarence, Lloyd and Fred; and four sisters, Gladys Westrick, Margaret Halvorson, Thora Brink and Violet Halvorson.
Pastor Allen Campbell officiated. Music was provided by Rachel Markestad, pianist and soloist.
Casketbearers were Bennie Fossen, Gerald Fossen, Lanny Fossen, Ivar Haugen, Dave Holje, Curtis Hvinden and Dean Markestad.
