Virginia Burgard
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Westminster, Colo., for Virginia A. Burgard, 74, Ogallala, Neb., formerly of Harvey, who died Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Aurora, Colo.
Burial was in Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
Virginia was born July 17, 1935 in Minot, a daughter of Michael and Helen Meyer. She attended and graduated from Karlsruhe schools in 1953. She married James J. Burgard on Sept. 27, 1954. The couple made their home in Harvey, and moved to Denver in 1965. She worked for Western Electric/AT&T, retiring after 25 years of service.
She was a member of St. Cecelia’s Catholic Church in Harvey, Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westminster, Colo., and St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala, Neb. She was a member of the IBEW Union, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and Ogallala Moose Lodge.
She is survived by her children, Colleen Tompkins of Broomfield, Colo., Cindy Ryan of Keystone, Neb., Mark Burgard of Golden, Colo., and Matt Burgard of Thornton, Colo.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Sally Kasper, Helen Hovland, Martha Gay, Catherine Luikart, and Johanna Matthews; brothers, Leo, Herman, Roy and Mike; other relatives and friends; and special companion, Mike Ripplinger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; an infant daughter, Mary; a sister, Maria Racine; and brothers, John, Wendelin, and Leo in infancy.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the American Diabetes Association.
