Sigfred Grove
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at First Lutheran Church, Rugby, for Sigfred “Sig” Grove, 86, who died Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Heart of America Long Term Care Center.
Burial was in Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Rugby.
Sig was born May 4, 1923, a son of Andrew and Annie (Fjellanger) Grove. He received his education in a country school in the Rugby area. In October of 1944, he entered the U.S. Army, serving during WWII in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in November of 1946. He married Ione Ann Oksendahl on July 16, 1948. They farmed south of Rugby for 61 years.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ione; three sons, Warren and Bob, both of Rugby, and Gary, Balta; two daughters, Patty Corbit of Kentucky and Brenda Jundt, Rugby; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Archie, Rugby; sisters-in-law, Mary Jean, Canada, and Gloria, Rugby; a brother-in-law, Jeff Byrne, Indiana; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orrin, Ernest and Lawrence; two sisters, Mae, and Janice Byrne; and his parents.
Pastor Mike Pretzer and Pastor Sharon Baker officiated. Music was provided by Alecia Pretzer, soloist, and Pam Anderson, organist.
Casketbearers were Brandon Grove, Lance Grove, Zachery Grove, Amos Grove, Dustin Jundt, Cody Corbit and Kristopher Corbit.
Military honors were accorded by The Clarence Larson American Legion Post #23 Honor and Color Guard and the Military Funeral Honors of Minot.
