Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Valle Lutheran Church, Rolette, for Arthur “Art” Foss, 88, who died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at his home.

Burial was in Willow Creek Cemetery, rural Overly.

Art was born February 7, 1921 in Kohlmeier Township, Rolette County, a son of Christ and Guri (Haugen) Foss. He was reared and educated in Kohlmeier Township and attended Cleveland School, rural Overly. He married Lenore Gable on May 31, 1946. The couple made their home in rural Rolette, where they farmed, ranched and raised their family.

He was a member of Willow Creek Lutheran Church in Overly, and Valle Lutheran Church in Rolette.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore; five sons, Bruce, Paul, Glen and Danny, all of Rolette, and Duane of Rolla; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Armstrong of Rolette; three sisters-in-law, Edna Foss of Rugby, Jeannine Westby of Cando and Coleen Sivertson of Bottineau; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Brenda; a sister, Marie Clark; and brothers, Olaus, Oliver, Melvin, Grant and Alfred.

Rev. John Hesford officiated. Music was provided by Robert Gilje, soloist, and Lavonne Ivey, organist.

Casketbearers were Jarrett Foss, Nick Foss, Joshua Foss, Gary Foss, Rodney Foss and David Armstrong.
