Rueben Togstad
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at North Viking Lutheran Church, Maddock, for Rueben Togstad, 93, of Maddock, who died Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care.
Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock.
Rueben was born November 6, 1915, in Albert Township, rural Maddock, a son of Lars and Trina Mathilda (Nerhagen) Togstad. He was raised there and educated at the Albert rural school #2. He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He married Olive Fossen on November 14, 1949, in Minnewaukan. Olive died July 29, 1957. On Feb. 6, 1959, he married Mildred Lunde in Harvey. He farmed near Heimdal and in Albert Township, near Maddock. He was also a carpenter. He retired and moved into Maddock in 1986.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, near Maddock, serving as a deacon and cemetery sexton. Upon its closure, he became a member of North Viking Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, Maddock; daughters, Diane Togstad, Devils Lake, Eileen Hoerauf, Spokane, Wash., and Janice Sorenson, Minot; 4 grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Williams, Maddock; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, David Hoerauf; a grandson, Bradley Hoerauf; brothers, Alfred, Norman, Haldor, Theodore and Orville; and sisters, Helen Palmer, Agnes Togstad, Bernice Adrian and Ella Lalum.
Pastor Allen Campbell officiated. Military rites were accorded by the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Post #23 of Maddock. Music was provided by Arlyss Bergrud, soloist, and Rachel Markestad, pianist.
Casketbearers were Rodger Williams, Mark Williams, Donald Williams, Fred Adrian, Marvin Melaas and Dan Rangen. Honorary casketbearers were his grandchildren.
