Homer Romine

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake, for Homer E. Romine, 80, who died Wednesday, Sept. 23, at home.

Burial was in the Devils Lake Cemetery.

Homer was born January 28, 1929, in Rugby, a son of Eugene and Hilma (Ellertson) Romine. He was raised and educated in Rugby, graduating from Rugby High School in 1946. He married Doris M. Argabright on August 27, 1950, in Rugby. They established their home in Rolla. He worked for Otter Tail Power Company for 20 years, living in Lansford, Bottineau, Fergus Falls, Minn., and Devils Lake. In 1974, he became employed as a salesman for Schwan Wholesale, working there until his retirement.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and KEM Shrine; holding several offices including, president of the Uniformed Units Council for KEM Temple, president of the Lake Region Shrine Club and president of the Lake Region Flag Corp. He served in the Lake Region area as a liaison for patient referrals to the Shriners Hospital and was Shriner of the Year in 2008.

He is survived by his children, Becky Durbin, Devils Lake, Susan Uhlenkamp, Rochester, Minn., Lyle, Fargo, and E. Todd, Devils Lake; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, June Gilleshammer, Grafton, and Lyla Crowe, Seattle; brothers, Rod and Jerome, both of Minot, and Clark, Richland, Wash.; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; a grandson, Dane Garcia; and a brother, Perry.

Rev. David L. Birkeland officiated. The Lake Region Flag Corp. provided honors. Music was provided by Sherry Kurtz and Steve Boone, organist.

Casketbearers were I. F. “Izzy” LaFleur, Alex Dettling, Jim Hunt, Dean Hovern, Darren Briss and Don Froelich.
