Katherine Schiele

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake, for Katherine M. Scheile, 84, who died Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake, after battling Lou Gehrig’s disease for three years.

Burial was in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

Katherine was born Aug. 29, 1925 at Fulda, a daughter of Jack and Catherine (Schell) Bachmeier. At a young age, she moved with her family to a farm in Noonan Township and attended Noonan Township school. She married Jack L. Schiele on Jan. 8, 1945, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crary, N.D. The couple made their home on a farm in Noonan Township. She worked on the farm with her husband. In 1979, the couple retired from farming and moved to Devils Lake. She became a foster grandparent at College Care for Kids, working there for 11 years. She retired in November of 2008.

She is survived by her children: JoAnn of Devils Lake, Dennis of Crary and Jolene of Devils Lake; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers: Wendelin Bachmeier of Devils Lake, Ralph Bachmeier of St. Paul, Minn., and Leonard Bachmeier of Forest Lake, Minn.; two sisters: Mary Volk of Devils Lake and Evelyn Hager of Oakdale, Minn.; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; and brothers: Raymond, Bernard and Anton “Tony” Bachmeier.

Fr. Peter Sharpe officiated. Music was provided by JoDee Lagein and Peter A. Hager.

Casketbearers were Jason Lee, Jeff Lee, Jesse Lee, Jeremy Lee, Tyler Schiele and Jacob Kostecki.
