Mildred Thomas

Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Rugby, for Mildred Theodora Thomas, 96, who died Monday, Aug. 17 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Walnut Creek, Calif.

Burial was in Persilla Watts Cemetery.

Millie was born Nov. 21, 1912 in rural Pierce County, a daughter of John Henry and Alma (Berg) Arthur. She attended country schools in Pierce County and graduated from Rugby High School in 1931. She was employed at the Crammond Hotel, Dr. Virgil Allen’s dental practice, Lien’s Jewelry and the Johnson Clinic, all in Rugby. In 1955, she moved to Berkeley, Calif. In 1957, she married Harlan Thomas and they lived in Lafayette, Calif. until his death in 1989. She worked in the Lafayette school system and did catering.

She is survived by two stepchildren, David Thomas of California and Sharon Guenther of Arizona; a sister-in-law, Janice Arthur of Rugby; two nieces, Elaine Martin of Springfield, Mo. and Myrna Anderson of Branson, Mo.; four nephews, Richard Peters of Chanhassen, Minn., Chad Arthur of Monticello, Minn., Kris Arthur of Minot and Kurt Arthur of Rugby; and three cousins, Ralph Berg, Gladys Sanden and Myrtle Mattern, all of Rugby.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Beulah Peters; and a brother, Milton “Bud” Arthur.

Mr. Richard Peters officiated.
